Changing the resolution of the GRUB
This machine uses 3k resolution which is quite hard to the eyes, and dos prompt has a hard time drawing the menu. To change this you need to go to /etc/default/grub and
Then save and run sudo update-grub to apply the resolution change
Changing the resolution of SDDM
Like the GRUB the login screen also opens in the highest possible resolution, which is something I really don’t like. To decrease it:
Find the monitor’s device name from Displays menu. (Mine was eDPI1) Go to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d and sudo touch 50-monitor.conf In the touched file enter these lines:
Section "Monitor" Identifier "eDP1" Option "Enable" "true" Option "PreferredMode" "1920x1080" EndSection
By doing this we’ll order the SDDM to render in 1920x1080 which is my desktop resolution.
If Optirun gives static about user not being added to the bumblebee group, it really is the problem. Add the user, reboot and voila.
To run steam in NVIDIA
optirun -b primus steam
